The Information Technology Departments mission is to provide timely support and stable technology systems to address the needs of various County departments; so they can in turn provide Stutsman County residents with vital services.
The department is responsible for installing, supporting and maintaining computer systems, servers, network and all IT infrastructure for the Stutsman County Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, Human Services and other outlying County departments, as well as City Hall (City of Jamestown).
With the ever changing threat landscape in todays connected world, the department is also tasked with implementing robust cybersecurity measures to enable the County to effectively mitigate cyber threats and safeguard its systems.
In 2025, the department also started managing the County’s GIS, or geographic information system, environment.
Josh Smaage was hired as the County’s Director of Information Technology in December, 2007. Jason Linz has been the IT Specialist since May, 2016.
Staff are on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week to ensure vital services and mission-critical applications and equipment are operating properly.
