Weed Board
The Stutsman County Weed Board is made up of 7 members. The County Commissioners appoint four members from the County. A County Commissioner, a Jamestown City Council member and a Jamestown resident nominated by the City Council also serve on the board. The Board oversees a Weed Control Officer, a position currently held by Ron Manson.
The role of the Board and Weed Control Officer is to enforce the North Dakota Century Code noxious weed law. The main goal is to keep weeds from propagating and spreading onto adjacent lands. This is done by inspecting and monitoring noxious weed infestations and encouraging all landowners in the county to control noxious weeds on their lands.
The main office is located right next to the Stutsman County Library at 914 5th St SE in Jamestown.
2026 Noxious Weed Cost Share Program
Cost share programs are available to landowners to help with the control of noxious weeds on your non-CRP and Cropland such as pastures and untillable acreages. Funds are available for those controlling all North Dakota State Noxious Weeds. Included are weeds commonly found in Stutsman County: Leafy Spurge, Canada Thistle, Absinth Wormwood, Musk Thistle, Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed, Yellow Toadflax, Houndstongue or Common Mullein.
For 2026, the Stutsman County Weed Board has appropriated $70,000 in cost share money for any noxious weeds sprayed on individual landowner’s property in Stutsman County.
Last year cost share money returned to landowners was $16.00 per acre; those numbers were based on total acres submitted to the program. The limits per producer for non-crop land spraying will be $3,000.00.
The Board does not provide cost share for CRP or cropland.
All cost share forms must be returned to the Weed Control office by November 1st, 2026. The form is available on this page under the ‘Documents’ heading, and can also be obtained by stopping by the office located at 914 6th St SE, Jamestown. Please note that you must provide a copy of your chemical receipts and a map showing the location of the noxious weeds you have treated, or a custom applicator’s billing and spray records.
Please contact the office for more information and the numerous programs aimed at helping landowners deal with noxious weeds.
