The Stutsman County Weed Board is made up of 7 members. The County Commissioners appoint four members from the County. A County Commissioner, a Jamestown City Council member and a Jamestown resident nominated by the City Council also serve on the board. The Board oversees a Weed Control Officer, a position currently held by Ron Manson.
The role of the Board and Weed Control Officer is to enforce the North Dakota Century Code noxious weed law. The main goal is to keep weeds from propagating and spreading onto adjacent lands. This is done by inspecting and monitoring noxious weed infestations and encouraging all landowners in the county to control noxious weeds on their lands.
Cost share programs are available to landowners to help with the control of noxious weeds on your non-CRP and Cropland such as pastures and untillable acreages. Funds are available for those controlling all North Dakota State Noxious Weeds. Included are weeds commonly found in Stutsman County: Leafy Spurge, Canada Thistle, Absinth Wormwood, Musk Thistle, Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed, Yellow Toadflax and Houndstongue.
Please contact the office for more information and the numerous programs aimed at helping landowners deal with noxious weeds.
The main office is located right next to the Stutsman County Library at 502 10th Ave SE in Jamestown.
